A unique collaboration between the legendary Sónia Tavares and the Monastery of Alcobaça
Sónia Tavares is from Alcobaça, and this has had a huge formative effect on her work and on her life. The magical bringing together of Sónia, the Monastery and Claraval, all with deep roots in Alcobaça, was a unique and symbolic experience and the beginning of our journey.

Claraval was founded in 2023, and is based in Alcobaça, Portugal. A union between S. Bernardo, specialist manufacturers of decorative ceramics and Skopelab, specialist in computational audio-reactive design. Our aim is to bring to light new forms by exploring the harmonies and rythmic relationships of sound.
The nature of sound, waves, relationships, complex yet connected in ways that obey fundamental laws of nature.

Located in Alcobaça, Portugal, our factory is a concentration of technical and creative expertise in the crafting of fine ceramics.
Through decades of experience producing some of the most technically chalenging pieces in the field of decorative ceramics and a dedicated team constantly developping new techniques of prototyping, molding, glazing, this was the perfect match to embarque on this new adventure.
The forms produced through the process of transformation of sound are unique in their fluid purity, yet also sophisticated complexity, requiring some of the most advanced techniques and experience in the industry.
